The Eiffel Tower in Paris welcomed 6.3 million visitors last year, surpassing the pre-Covid figures of 2019, according to the management company's statement on Friday. The year-on-year increase of eight percent was fueled by events commemorating the 100th anniversary of Gustave Eiffel's death. New attractions, such as guided tours and celebrity chef-prepared meals in the luxury restaurant, contributed to the rise in numbers. The iconic "Iron Lady" saw up to seven million visits in 2014 and 6.2 million five years later. Despite closures during pandemic lockdowns, the tower rebounded, with the largest share of visitors (18.9%) coming from France, followed by North Americans (18%), mainly from the United States. Non-French Europeans made up 44%, with significant numbers from Germany, Britain, and Spain. The Rugby World Cup in 2021 brought increased visits from Oceania countries, including Australia and New Zealand. Paris's major museums also returned to pre-Covid visitor numbers or set new records last year.
