Google has decided to pitch in 25 million euros (which is about $26.98 million) to assist folks in Europe in getting the hang of artificial intelligence (AI). They made this announcement on Monday, saying they're now taking applications from social enterprises and nonprofits. These organizations will play a crucial role in reaching out to those who would benefit the most from AI training.
In addition to this financial support, Google plans to organize "growth academies" to lend a hand to businesses that are using AI to expand their operations. They've also broadened their range of free online AI courses to cover 18 different languages.
According to Adrian Brown, who heads the Centre for Public Impact, there's a risk that AI could make existing inequalities worse, especially when it comes to jobs and financial security. He believes this new initiative will empower people across Europe by enhancing their understanding, skills, and confidence in AI, ensuring that nobody gets left behind.
Just last month, Google announced a hefty investment of $1 billion into constructing a data center near London. This move is aimed at meeting the rising demand for internet services in the region. The data center, which sits on a 33-acre site acquired by Google in 2020, will be located in Waltham Cross, a town about 15 miles north of central London, as per a statement from the Alphabet-owned company.
